My Story

I have worked in the Health Industry, on and off, over the last 25 years in a variety of capacities including analytical, Project Management and complementary care. For the past six years, I have run my own business, Carinyah Women's Bodywork & Womb Therapies, from my Home Clinic in Thornlie. I love my work but it can be challenging and taxing on the body, which is why I decided to study to become a fitness instructor - but what would I teach that would fit nicely within my current skillset?

In the midst of enduring and managing a range of musculoskeletal issues in my arms and shoulders, I knew that something needed to change. I had practiced Yoga on and off for the past 20 years but looking around, I noticed just how many yoga studios and yoga teachers were around the area and felt that I would get lost in a sea of instructors. I needed something different, something people hadn't necessarily experienced and would be able to dive deeply into.

My clinic has a very holistic focus and I integrate many Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practices into my work including moxibustion, cupping, dry needling (acupuncture) as well a including energy healing as part of my practice. At one of my first Qi Gong sessions, I learned that Qi Gong is one of the key tenets of TCM practice (along with Acupuncture, Tui Na Massage and Herbs/Nutrition) and that TCM practitioners integrate Qi Gong into their work and prescribe it to clients for health management.

I considered the benefits of Qi Gong and how I could integrate it within my work and it seemed like a logical next step. I completed a 300+ hour training program with Nicholas Blewett from QiFit over the course of 9 months and qualified in May 2024.

I am excited to bring to you this Ancient practice that has so many wonderful health benefits. Just learning how to breathe properly has enabled me to experience an incredible shift in how I manage anxiety and overwhelm. In this modern, fast-paced life, I find it is so important to learn to slow down and reconnect with what is going on inside us, to find just a glimpse of inner peace, so that we can live a little more easily day-to-day.

About Qi Gong

Movement Medicine

What is Qi Gong?

Qi Gong is an internal Martial Art that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It is a way of bringing regulation to the body through movement, breathing and mindfulness practices.

Qi Gong teaches the student through focusing on the three regulations - Body, Breath and Mind. Through regulation of the body, we move in natural ways that do not create tension in the body. Paired with proper diaphragmatic breathing, the mind becomes present and connected, creating a state of gentle meditation during which the body is programmed to move with ease and grace, rather than with tension and dysfunction.

Qi Gong focuses on strengthening the lower dantian, or the core of your body, which forms the basis for all movement and commences the Jing/Chi/Shen cycle of regeneration.
